Castellare degli Ugurgieri
Ancient example of fortress within the city

The Castellare degli Ugurgieri is a house-fortress from the XIII century  - placed strategically along the Via Francigena - which has survived almost intact to this day, thus being of great historical and architectural charm.

It has two archivolt entrances, one on Via Cecco Angiolieri and one on Via San Vigilio, with an internal courtyard, always accessible, where today are the headquarters and museum of the Contrada della Civetta.

The name is that of the rich Ugurgieri family who ordered its construction and owned it.
